Knowledge Base
Is rotation lossless?
Yes, when performing 90-degree increments in formats like PNG. For custom angles, we use high-precision resampling via the Sharp engine to maintain maximum clarity.
Can I process private photos?
Absolutely. Previews are generated locally on your device, and transformations are handled securely. We never store your data.
What is the background fill?
When rotating by odd angles, empty space appears. PNG/WebP exports keep this transparent, while JPEG uses a clean background fill.
Flip, Mirror, Rotate — Without Quality Loss
Jobs that need a flip
Flipping mirrors an image across an axis — different from rotation, and needed more often than you'd think:
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Selfie text reads backwards | Horizontal flip restores readable text |
| Scanned film negative is mirrored | Horizontal flip corrects the scan |
| Design asset needs to face the other way | Flip the subject toward your layout's center |
| Iron-on transfer printing | Print mirrored so it reads right on fabric |
| Photo is sideways, not mirrored | That's rotation — use 90° steps instead |
Flip vs. rotate — they're not the same
Rotating 180° turns the image upside down; flipping produces a mirror image. The test: text. If letters are upside down but read left-to-right, rotate. If letters read backwards, flip horizontally. Both operations here are lossless — pixels are rearranged, never recompressed, so you can flip without degrading the photo.
