How is WPM calculated?
UtilVox uses the international standard for Typing Speed: (Characters typed / 5) / Time elapsed. A 'word' is defined as 5 characters including spaces and punctuation.
What is the difference between Easy and Hard?
Easy mode uses the 200 most frequent English words. Medium expands this to 1000 common words, and Hard includes complex polysyllabic terms and technical vocabulary.
Can I use external keyboards?
Absolutely. The engine is optimized for all mechanical and membrane keyboards. We recommend a tactile mechanical switch for peak performance diagnostics.

Accuracy is the speed hack nobody wants to hear

Every error costs more than the keystroke — you notice, backtrack, correct, and resume, easily losing several words' worth of time. A 95%-accuracy typist at 60 WPM outputs more clean text than a 90%-accuracy typist at 70. Train at a pace where you stay above 97% accuracy and speed follows on its own; chasing the WPM number first bakes in error habits that are hard to unlearn.

Why it matters here

Government and clerical job tests in Pakistan (and data-entry roles everywhere) set explicit WPM floors — often 30–40 WPM with accuracy requirements — so a measured score tells you exactly where you stand before test day. Practice in focused blocks: the pomodoro timer structures 25-minute sessions, and the stopwatch times custom drills.
