How to Use Text to Speech in Your Browser
Turn written text into spoken audio, choose an available browser voice, and adjust playback settings while checking pronunciation and pacing.
Text to speech can help you listen to a draft, review pronunciation, or hear content while looking away from the screen. Voice quality and language availability depend on the browser and voices installed or provided by the operating system.
Read text aloud
- Open UtilVox Text to Speech in a browser that supports speech synthesis.
- Paste or type the text you want to hear.
- Select an available voice and language, then adjust the speed or pitch if those controls are shown.
- Start playback and use pause or stop to review a section.
Improve pronunciation and pacing
Use punctuation to create natural pauses. Spell out an acronym the first time if the voice reads it unexpectedly, and test names, numbers, abbreviations, and non-English phrases before sharing the audio. A voice that sounds clear for one language may not pronounce another language well.
Know what the browser tool produces
This tool uses the browser’s Web Speech API and available system voices. It reads text aloud; it does not create a downloadable studio-quality recording. The voice list can differ across browsers, devices, and operating systems, so test on the device your audience will use.
For accessibility, spoken playback is an option alongside readable text, captions, and other formats. It should not be the only way important information is available.
