How to Unlock a PDF When You Know Its Password
Remove PDF encryption for a file you own or are authorized to modify, using the correct password and checking the unlocked copy afterward.
PDF protection can require a password to open a document or restrict actions such as printing and editing. If you own the file or have permission to modify it and know the required password, an unlock tool can create an unencrypted copy.
Remove a password from an authorized PDF
- Open the PDF Unlocker and select the document.
- Enter the correct password when prompted. The tool cannot recover a forgotten password or bypass encryption without it.
- Start processing and download the new file.
- Open the output PDF and confirm it contains the expected pages and that the restrictions changed as intended.
Protect sensitive documents
Removing a password also removes a layer of access control from the output. Store the unlocked copy securely and share it only with the intended recipients. If the source belongs to an employer, client, agency, or another person, get authorization before changing its protection.
When to use a different PDF tool
If you want to remove pages rather than encryption, use the PDF Page Extractor or PDF Splitter. If you need to rearrange pages, use the PDF Page Reorder tool.
UtilVox’s PDF Unlocker requires the correct password and is intended for files you have permission to modify. It is not a brute-force or password-recovery service.
